About Me
My name is Lindsey Kirchmier, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor through the Virginia State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors. I am also a Level One Trained IFS Practitioner.
I have always been deeply moved by the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of healing. My passion for working with people is rooted in a deep respect for each person's unique story and an unwavering compassion for the challenges they carry. I consider it a profound privilege to walk alongside others as they uncover their inner strength, reconnect with their authentic self, and move toward greater wholeness. In both my personal life and my work as a therapist, I hold a core belief in the possibility of change. This sense of optimism—grounded in empathy and lived experience—infuses the therapy space and guides the work we do together.
Professional Experience
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with an M.A. in Community Counseling from Appalachian State University, which I earned in 2010. My career began in public mental health, where I worked with individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges, both in the community and hospital settings. In 2016, I transitioned into private practice, where I now work primarily with adults. Throughout my career, I’ve remained deeply committed to growing in this work, continually expanding my understanding of the human experience and the healing process.
I primarily work through the lens of IFS, and am a Level One IFS Therapist, trained through the IFS Institute. I hold graduate certificates in Addictions Therapy and Expressive Arts Therapy from Appalachian State University. I also have advanced training in EMDR, Somatic Practices, and Trauma-Informed Care. I approach therapy with respect for the complexity of each individual and a belief in the lifelong process of learning, healing, and integration.
Lived Experience
My own lived experience deeply informs my work as a therapist. I know firsthand the courage it takes to face pain, explore old wounds, and move toward healing. Having navigated my own journey through trauma, I bring not only clinical training but also a personal understanding of the healing process. I continue to engage in my own Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy as a commitment to my growth, integrity, and presence—both for myself and for the people I have the privilege of working with. This ongoing personal work helps me stay grounded, compassionate, and attuned to the complex and tender nature of transformation.
